Shimano Stella 18000 HGC

Shimano Stella 18000 HGC

The Shimano Stella 18000 HGC represents the pinnacle of innovation for Shimano reel technology and fish-fighting performance.

For increased power and enhanced durability, this series features a range of upgrades.

  • Infinity Drive has been incorporated for light and powerful winding.
  • Upgraded Heatsink Drag provides superior drag performance under extreme heat.
  • A water resistance rating of IPX8 is achieved through X-Protect and X-Shield.
  • With the aluminium Hagane Body acting as a rigid and super tough outer shell.
  • 28kg drag!!!!

The HG models are designed for both casting and jigging, but the high gear ratio of 5.7:1 is better suited spinning or rock and surf fishing in snaggy terrain.

We see the Stella 18000 as the perfect reel when popping for big fish like Yellowfin Tuna or big Dog Tooth Tuna, we all know how these species can head for horizon with total disregard for all the drag that is applied.

The Stellas SW series has always sported strong and smooth drags and the Shimano Stella 18000 HGC does not disappoint with a max stated drag of 28kg, I don’t even know what one will do with all that drag!!! I struggle to hold on to 15kgs! But this will truly be fantastic when targeting massive GT’s in places like Oman, Seychelles and Mozambique.

I would suggest 80lb or maybe even 100lb braid depending on how important casting distance will be?  The Shimano Stella 18000 HGC will hold 400 meters of 80lb Power Pro. If that is not enough to stop a big Yellowfin then surely it will be enough to get the engines started!

If big game spinning is your thing then pop in and come and have a look at the new range!
